The physicians of Tuckahoe Orthopaedic Associates maintain a collaborative relationship with referring physicians. Referring physicians are routinely provided reports of consultations as well as diagnosis and proposed treatment plans for their patients.


Tuckahoe Orthopaedics welcomes new patients to our Practice. To schedule a new patient appointment, please contact Hilary at (804) 285-2300 ext. 148. Please have your insurance information available when you call. Please be advised that we do not accept any third party billing. Hilary will be happy to assist you in scheduling an appointment with Dr.Van or his PA, Anna.

Patients are seen Monday through Friday during clinic hours. We try to see our patients in a timely manner to minimize any inconvenience. However, unfortunately, situations may arise unexpectedly that can cause Dr.Van to be delayed. We hope that you understand this and have patience. We also realize that you may have other commitments as well. If this is the case and your appointment is delayed and you prefer not to wait, we will be happy to work with you in rescheduling your appointment.



If your appointment needs to be cancelled with Dr.Van or Anna, 24 hours notice must be provided; however, if this is not possible, please give us as much notice as possible. Early cancellations give other patients the opportunity to utilize the available time slot. Appointments can be cancelled by calling Hilary at (804) 285-2300 ext.148. At the time of cancellation, Hilary will be happy to assist you in rescheduling your appointment.


Filling Out Information Forms Before Your Appointment

To accept a new patient, we must collect a significant amount of information from you. You will be asked to fill out forms pertaining to personal identification, insurance, and your medical history. We apologize for the inconvenience, but this information is necessary for your medical evaluation and our billing process.

We can mail these forms to you ahead of time, or you can download them from our website so you can have them completed when you arrive for your appointment; otherwise you will have to complete them upon arrival to our office.


Patient Telephone Calls/Questions

van_spinePlease feel free to call our office with any questions that you may have about your orthopaedic care or treatment. To serve you most effectively, these calls should be made during office hours. Dr. Van's Medical Assistant, Scheketha, will answer all calls. She may be reached by calling (804) 285-2300 ext.156.

Please be advised that your call may go into voicemail while she is in clinic assisting Dr. Van and Anna. These messages are checked frequently; however she cannot return your call during clinic hours. Non-emergency phone calls will be returned within 24 hours. We appreciate your patience.


Insurance/Disability Forms

Insurance/Disability forms WILL NOT be completed on the day of your office visit but will be completed within 10 business days. We can mail, fax, or leave the completed forms at the front desk for you to pick up. There is a $15 charge for the completion of each form.

You will need to complete a Tuckahoe Orthopaedic Medical Release Form before any paperwork can be completed. You can download the release form from the website or obtain and complete one in our office. This is a HIPPA regulation. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your forms please do not hesitate to contact Jessica at (804) 285-2300 ext. 110.


Out of Work Status

Because of heightened insurance scrutiny, missed work is a difficult issue. If Dr. Van requires you to be out of work, we can only cover you from the initial date seen and subsequent dates thereafter. No retroactive dates.

You will not be taken out of work unless you were seen in the office by Dr. Van or Anna, and this was addressed at the time of your visit and appropriate out of work status report was given at that time.


Prescription Refills

Medication questions and requests for additional medication from our patients are important issues that are taken seriously by Dr. Van and his staff. Please consider the following policies so that we can better serve you.

  • Calls for prescription refills should always be made during office hours. This will allow our staff to arrange for reasonable refills to be processed.
  • Requests for prescription refills generally require 24-48 hours notice so please make appropriate arrangements.
  • When calling in for a prescription refill or request, please have your pharmacy number available. Without this information it makes it impossible for us to grant your request. Our staff will first consult with Dr. Van for your prescription approval. As, Dr. Van is not always in the office, this is why we require 24-48 hours notice.
  • Absolutely no medication refills will be called in on the weekend or after office hours. In addition, the on-call physician will not call in any medications after business hours or on weekends.
  • Medications will not be refilled if a patient continues to miss scheduled appointments. All patients must be seen by Dr. Van a minimum of every 60 days to continue to receive narcotic medications, and a minimum of every 120 days for all other medications.
If you have had surgery and have problems with the medication given post-operatively, please call our office at (804) 285-2300 ext.156. Your questions will be addressed at that time.
